The Switch! — Issue #002
The Inside Track to the Diaspora Economic Movement
The Moment
From Dependence to True Collaboration.
Hope is not passive. For the African diaspora, hope has always been the engine — the quiet, stubborn belief that something better is not only possible but inevitable. But hope without structure is just a wish. And for too long, our communities have been rich in hope and poor in the infrastructure to channel it.
The BERTHA Leadership Team has been in deep conversation about what it truly means to move from dependence to collaboration. Not the kind of collaboration that looks good in a press release — but the kind that restructures how we trade, how we invest, how we build, and how we show up for one another across borders and time zones and generations.
Dependence looks like sending remittances home and watching the fees eat 8% before the money arrives. Dependence looks like buying our culture from companies that don't share our values. Dependence looks like waiting for institutions that were never designed for us to finally include us. True collaboration looks different. It looks like BERTHA. It looks like diaspora merchants selling directly to diaspora consumers. It looks like ambassadors building local networks that connect to a global movement. It looks like a stablecoin that keeps our money in our hands.
This is Issue #002. The movement is not slowing down — it is accelerating. And every one of you reading this is proof that the diaspora is ready to make the switch from dependence to ownership, from isolation to true collaboration. Welcome.

Platform Progress
The Build Continues.
BERTHA is moving fast across every front. Here is where the platform stands as we enter October 2026.
Merchant Vendor Portal: Applications Growing
The BERTHA merchant vendor portal continues to attract diaspora entrepreneurs from across the US, UK, Canada, the Caribbean, and Africa. Application volume has increased month-over-month. Early applicants are receiving priority onboarding and founding member benefits. If you have not yet applied, now is the time.
Accra HQ: Site Shortlist Finalized
Our COO is carefully considering our initial site in Accra, and has created a short list of locations for BERTHA's West African headquarters. The selected space will serve as the hub for vendor relations, logistics coordination, and regional expansion across West Africa. A formal announcement will be made in this very newsletter soon.
Logistics Partnership: Term Sheet Signed
BERTHA is finalizing an agreement with major shipping partners such as USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL, and an additional 100+ carriers to enable cross-border shipping between the US, UK, the Caribbean, and Africa. This is a major milestone in our ability to deliver on the promise of a truly global diaspora marketplace. Full details will be announced upon full contract execution.
Mobile Platform: Beta Design Complete
The BERTHA mobile app has completed its beta design phase. The mobile-first marketplace experience will allow shoppers to browse, purchase, and track orders from anywhere in the world — with full support for diaspora payment methods including the future integration of the BERTHA Stablecoin. Development sprint begins this month.

Africa's projected GDP by 2030 — fastest-growing major economy bloc
The Dangote IPO is one of the most significant capital events in African economic history. Aliko Dangote's conglomerate — spanning cement, petrochemicals, and food production — is preparing a public offering that would make it one of the largest listed companies on the African continent. For diaspora investors, this is a signal: African private-sector capital is maturing, and the opportunity to participate is real. Learn more at ipo.dangote.com.
Meanwhile, Charlotte's Global Africa Summit (Sept. 8–10, 2026) brought together over 300 investors, entrepreneurs, and policymakers under the theme 'Beyond Partnerships: Trade, Investment & Private Capital as Tools of Global Resilience.' The summit's central message — moving from remittances to ownership — is exactly the shift BERTHA is building infrastructure to support.
The convergence of these signals — a landmark African IPO, a major diaspora investment summit, and accelerating cross-border trade frameworks — points to one conclusion: the window for diaspora entrepreneurs and investors to position themselves is open right now. BERTHA is the platform built for this moment.

The Merchant Vendor Spotlight is one of the most-read sections of The Switch! — and starting with upcoming issues, it belongs to you. Each issue, BERTHA will feature one diaspora merchant vendor: their story, their products, and their vision for what commerce rooted in culture can look like.
We are looking for vendors who are building with intention — artisans, food producers, fashion designers, beauty founders, tech entrepreneurs, and makers of every kind across the African diaspora. If that is you, we want to tell your story.
Featured vendors receive a full editorial profile in The Switch!, promotion across BERTHA's social channels, and priority placement on the marketplace homepage for the week of publication. This is not an advertisement — it is a spotlight.
Apply to be a BERTHA merchant vendor and indicate your interest in the Spotlight when you submit your application. Our editorial team will be in touch.
Future of Diaspora Finance
How the BERTHA Stablecoin Will Power Global Commerce.
One of the biggest barriers to diaspora commerce is money movement. Sending funds across borders is slow, expensive, and often unreliable. Traditional remittance services charge fees of 5–10% per transaction. For a community that moves over $100 billion a year, that is a staggering tax on our own economic activity.
BERTHA is building a stablecoin — a digital currency pegged to stable value — specifically designed for diaspora commerce. The BERTHA stablecoin will allow vendors and shoppers to transact across borders instantly, with near-zero fees, and with full transparency on the blockchain.
For vendors, this means getting paid faster and keeping more of what you earn. For shoppers, it means seamless checkout regardless of which country you're buying from or selling to. For the diaspora as a whole, it means building a financial infrastructure that belongs to us.
The BERTHA stablecoin is currently in development. Early BERTHA members will be among the first to access it. Stay tuned for updates in future issues of The Switch!

Ground Zero
Five Cities. One Movement. Infinite Opportunity.
BERTHA's five launch communities are where the movement is taking root. Here is what is happening on the ground in each city this October.
Baltimore, MD
Baltimore remains BERTHA's founding city and the heartbeat of the movement. Our local network is the most developed of any Switch City — with vendor applications, ambassador interest, and community engagement all trending upward. The Baltimore chapter is setting the standard for what organized diaspora commerce looks like at the neighborhood level. If you are in Baltimore and not yet connected, now is the time.
Atlanta, GA
Atlanta's momentum is building. The city's African diaspora community — one of the fastest-growing in the country — is showing strong interest in both the vendor program and the ambassador opportunity. We are actively seeking a lead Ambassador to anchor the Atlanta chapter and channel the city's entrepreneurial energy into a structured BERTHA network. Atlanta has everything it needs. The right leader will unlock it.
Charlotte, NC
Charlotte is having a moment. The Global Africa Summit (Sept. 8–10) put the city on the map as a serious hub for African diaspora business and investment — drawing 300+ leaders under the theme 'Beyond Partnerships: Trade, Investment & Private Capital.' BERTHA was watching closely. Charlotte's Nigerian, Ghanaian, and broader African diaspora communities are organized, ambitious, and ready. We are actively recruiting a Charlotte Ambassador to turn that energy into a thriving local chapter.
Washington, DC
DC continues to be one of BERTHA's most strategically important cities. The intersection of diaspora culture, policy, and commerce here is unmatched anywhere in the country. Interest from DC-area entrepreneurs and community leaders has been strong. We are building toward a formal DC chapter launch and are in conversations with potential ambassadors who have the networks and vision to make it happen.
Accra, Ghana
Accra is the gateway to everything BERTHA is building on the continent. With our HQ site shortlist finalized and logistics partnerships advancing, the Accra chapter is moving from vision to reality. The Ambassador opportunity in Accra is historic — a founding role at the center of BERTHA's African network, connecting producers directly to the global diaspora. We are looking for a leader who understands what this moment means.

The New Creative Economy of the Diaspora.
Commerce and culture have always been inseparable in the African diaspora. The kente cloth worn at a graduation is also a product. The jollof rice served at a community gathering is also a business. The Afrobeats track playing at a wedding is also an industry. BERTHA understands this — and it is why we are building more than a marketplace.
This month's cultural signal: the rise of diaspora-owned creative commerce as a political act. From fashion designers in Lagos to food entrepreneurs in London to beauty founders in Atlanta, diaspora creators are not just building businesses — they are building alternatives. Every dollar spent with a diaspora business is a vote for a different kind of economy.
For BERTHA vendors, this is an opportunity. Consumers — especially younger diaspora consumers — are actively seeking products that carry cultural meaning and economic intention. They are not just buying things. They are buying identity, heritage, and vision.
The BERTHA marketplace is being built to celebrate and amplify this creative economy. Every vendor on our platform is not just a seller — they are a cultural ambassador.
"To be the leading global commerce and empowerment ecosystem for Diasporan-owned businesses and communities, driving inclusive growth and lasting impact worldwide."

The Movement in Action
Charlotte's Global Africa Summit: Beyond Partnerships.
Charlotte, North Carolina became a meeting place for African, American, and diaspora business leaders in September as the Global Africa Summit brought together investors, entrepreneurs, government officials, and economic development leaders focused on expanding trade and investment between Africa and the global diaspora.
The three-day summit (Sept. 8–10) at The Westin Charlotte was organized by the Africa Investment Network in partnership with Black Wall Street Charlotte and the Global Africa Business Accelerator Center. Held during North Carolina's Africa Diaspora Heritage Month, the gathering centered on the theme: 'Beyond Partnerships: Trade, Investment & Private Capital as Tools of Global Resilience.'
More than 300 business leaders, investors, policymakers, and diaspora representatives participated. The summit was designed to move the conversation beyond cultural and diplomatic relationships and toward actual business transactions, investment, and economic development — a distinction organizers emphasized as critical.
British A. Robinson of the Milken Institute delivered a keynote titled 'Building the Bridge: U.S.-Africa Trade, Investment Policy & the Diaspora Imperative,' pointing to Africa's growing young population, digital transformation, and access to critical minerals as forces reshaping the continent's global role. Dr. Rachel Laryea, author of 'Black Capitalist,' addressed the importance of moving from remittances to ownership — one of the summit's defining themes, and one that sits at the heart of everything BERTHA is building.
For BERTHA, Charlotte is not just a Switch City — it is a proof point. The Global Africa Summit demonstrated that the infrastructure for diaspora commerce and investment is being built right now, in cities like Charlotte, by leaders who understand that the time for talk has passed. The time for transactions has arrived.
