The Inside Track to the Diaspora Economic Movement
The Moment
A New Global Economy is Rising.
Something historic is happening. Across every continent, in every city where the African diaspora has planted roots, a new economic consciousness is awakening. People are asking a simple but revolutionary question: what if we spent our money with each other?
The African diaspora represents one of the most powerful untapped economic forces on the planet. We are doctors, engineers, artists, chefs, designers, and entrepreneurs. We send over $100 billion in remittances home every year. We build businesses in cities from Baltimore to London to Accra. And yet, for too long, our economic power has flowed outward — into systems that were never built for us.
BERTHA exists to change that. The Switch! is our newsletter — your front-row seat to the movement. Every issue, we will bring you the intelligence, the stories, the opportunities, and the inspiration to be part of something bigger than any one of us.
The diaspora is our power. The future is ours. Welcome to Issue #001.

Platform Progress
Inside the BERTHA Marketplace Build.
This week's insider update on where BERTHA stands — and where we're going.
Vendor Onboarding Now Live
The BERTHA vendor portal is officially open. Diaspora entrepreneurs across the US, UK, Canada, the Caribbean, and Africa can now apply to list their products on the marketplace. Early applicants receive priority placement and dedicated onboarding support.
Accra HQ: Location Search Underway
Our COO is on the ground in Accra actively evaluating locations to establish BERTHA's West African headquarters. The search is focused on spaces that can serve as a hub for vendor relations, logistics coordination, and regional expansion. An announcement is expected in a forthcoming issue.
Logistics Partnership in Negotiation
BERTHA is in advanced negotiations with international logistics partners to enable seamless cross-border shipping between the US, UK, Canada, and West Africa. Announcement expected next month.
Mobile Platform in Development
Our mobile-first marketplace experience is in active development. The BERTHA app will allow shoppers to browse, purchase, and track orders from anywhere in the world — with full support for diaspora payment methods.

The numbers are staggering — and they are growing. The African diaspora is not a niche market. It is one of the most dynamic economic communities in the world, with spending power that rivals the GDP of entire nations.
Yet despite this power, diaspora consumers have historically had limited access to authentic products from their home cultures. And diaspora entrepreneurs have had limited access to the customers who most want what they sell. BERTHA is the infrastructure that closes this gap.
Emerging diaspora industries to watch: African beauty and wellness, Afrocentric fashion and textiles, diaspora food and beverage, African art and home décor, and cross-border financial services. These are the sectors BERTHA is building for first.
Builders of the Movement
Your Business Could Be Featured Right Here.
The Vendor Spotlight is one of the most-read sections of The Switch! — and starting with soon to be released issues, it belongs to you. Each issue, BERTHA will feature one diaspora vendor: their story, their products, and their vision for what commerce rooted in culture can look like.
We are looking for vendors who are building with intention — artisans, food producers, fashion designers, beauty founders, tech entrepreneurs, and makers of every kind across the African diaspora. If that is you, we want to tell your story.
Featured vendors receive a full editorial profile in The Switch!, promotion across BERTHA's social channels, and priority placement on the marketplace homepage for the week of publication. This is not an advertisement — it is a spotlight.
Apply to be a BERTHA vendor and indicate your interest in the Spotlight when you submit your application. Our editorial team will be in touch.

Future of Diaspora Finance
How the BERTHA Stablecoin Will Power Global Commerce.
One of the biggest barriers to diaspora commerce is money movement. Sending funds across borders is slow, expensive, and often unreliable. Traditional remittance services charge fees of 5–10% per transaction. For a community that moves over $100 billion a year, that is a staggering tax on our own economic activity.
BERTHA is building a stablecoin — a digital currency pegged to stable value — specifically designed for diaspora commerce. The BERTHA stablecoin will allow vendors and shoppers to transact across borders instantly, with near-zero fees, and with full transparency on the blockchain.
For vendors, this means getting paid faster and keeping more of what you earn. For shoppers, it means seamless checkout regardless of which country you're buying from or selling to. For the diaspora as a whole, it means building a financial infrastructure that belongs to us.
The BERTHA stablecoin is currently in development. Early BERTHA members will be among the first to access it. Stay tuned for updates in future issues of The Switch!
Early BERTHA members get priority access to the stablecoin beta.
Ground Zero
Five Cities. One Movement. Infinite Opportunity.
BERTHA's five launch communities are where the movement is taking root — and where the opportunity to build a thriving Ambassador environment is wide open.
Baltimore, MD
Baltimore is BERTHA's founding city — and proof of what a strong Ambassador environment looks like. The community infrastructure here is deep, the diaspora business network is organized, and the appetite for a marketplace built for us is real. Baltimore is the blueprint. Every city can build what Baltimore is building.
Atlanta, GA
Atlanta's African diaspora community is one of the fastest-growing in the country — and the opportunity to establish a dominant BERTHA Ambassador presence here is enormous. The city has the entrepreneurs, the culture, and the consumer base. What it needs is organized leadership. That is exactly what a BERTHA Ambassador provides.
Charlotte, NC
Charlotte's Nigerian and Ghanaian communities are among the most organized in the Southeast — and the city is primed for a BERTHA Ambassador who can channel that energy into a thriving local network. The groundwork is there. The right leader can turn Charlotte into one of BERTHA's most active chapters.
Washington, DC
DC sits at the intersection of diaspora culture, policy, and commerce. An Ambassador here has access to one of the most educated, connected, and economically powerful African diaspora communities in the world. The opportunity to build something significant in DC is unlike anywhere else on the map.
Accra, Ghana
Accra is the gateway to BERTHA's African network — and the Ambassador opportunity here is historic. As BERTHA establishes its West African presence, the Accra Ambassador will be at the center of a movement connecting African producers directly to the global diaspora. This is a founding role in a city that is ready.

The New Creative Economy of the Diaspora.
Commerce and culture have always been inseparable in the African diaspora. The kente cloth worn at a graduation is also a product. The jollof rice served at a community gathering is also a business. The Afrobeats track playing at a wedding is also an industry. BERTHA understands this — and it is why we are building more than a marketplace.
This month's cultural signal: the rise of Afrofuturism as a commercial force. From fashion runways in Lagos to gallery openings in London to film sets in Atlanta, Afrofuturist aesthetics — bold, visionary, rooted in African tradition and pointed toward a liberated future — are driving billions of dollars in creative commerce.
For BERTHA vendors, this is an opportunity. Consumers — especially younger diaspora consumers — are actively seeking products that carry cultural meaning and aesthetic ambition. They are not just buying things. They are buying identity, heritage, and vision.
The BERTHA marketplace is being built to celebrate and amplify this creative economy. Every vendor on our platform is not just a seller — they are a cultural ambassador.
"To be the leading global commerce and empowerment ecosystem for Diasporan-owned businesses and communities, driving inclusive growth and lasting impact worldwide."
